A Lyon institution said to date from 1810
On its home page, the Crédit Municipal de Lyon describes itself as founded in 1810. Like every Crédit Municipal, it holds the monopoly on loans against tangible pledges that article L514-1 of the Code monétaire et financier grants to these institutions.
Head office in the 3rd, near Guichard metro
The head office and Lyon branch are at 221 rue Duguesclin, BP 3028, 69003 Lyon, close to Guichard station. The switchboard answers on 04 72 60 63 63, and a contact email address is also given on the office's website.
Opening hours of the Lyon branch
The branch opens Monday to Friday, from 8.30am to 4.45pm. Banking services keep split hours, from 8.30am to 12.45pm and then from 1.45pm to 4.45pm, according to the locations page.
Appointment compulsory before any deposit in Lyon
The office requires an appointment, booked through the online customer area, on the pretgage.fr platform or directly with the branch. Without a reserved slot, a valuation is not guaranteed, which sets Lyon apart from the Paris counter that is open without appointment in the mornings.
Five further branches attached to the Lyon office
The network has six sites: Lyon, Saint-Étienne at 17 avenue Augustin Dupré, Grenoble at 3 rue de Narvik, Mâcon, Clermont-Ferrand and Annecy, the newest. Details are in the guide to the Saint-Étienne Mont-de-Piété and that of Grenoble.
Addresses in Mâcon, Clermont-Ferrand and Annecy
The Mâcon branch is at 1381 avenue Charles de Gaulle, the Clermont-Ferrand branch at 76 boulevard François Mitterrand and the Annecy branch at 98 avenue de France. No branch is listed in Villeurbanne: see the Villeurbanne Mont-de-Piété.
750 gold: €45 per gram since April 2026
Since 1 April 2026, the scale for 750 fineness gold has been set at €45 per gram in all six branches. To understand weighing and hallmark standards, see pawning gold in France.
Jewellery, coins and gold: four pledges in five
According to the office's brochure, around 80% of the items deposited are jewellery, coins or gold objects. Other pledges, such as watches or works of art, are valued individually by the experts at no cost to the depositor.
How Lyon works out the amount lent
The brochure states a loan of between 50 and 70% of the value estimated on the public auction market. Article D514-8 of the Code monétaire et financier caps this ratio at four fifths for precious metals and two thirds for other items.
Lyon rates: information you must ask for
Neither the brochure nor the home page of the Crédit Municipal de Lyon publishes an interest rate or APR. The contract must nonetheless state the APR and the total amount payable: ask for the rate scale at the branch before signing.
At maturity, three possible choices
The Lyon brochure sets out three outcomes: renew the contract, let the item go to auction with the surplus returned to the owner, or redeem the pledge by repaying. The details of renewing a pawn loan are explained separately.
Maximum term and a fresh valuation
The term of the Lyon contract is not specified in the documents consulted. Article D514-7, however, limits a pawn loan to two years including extensions and requires a new valuation on renewal; any excess capital may then be reclaimed.

Missteps to avoid in Lyon
- Turning up on rue Duguesclin without an appointment: the Lyon office requires one and may be unable to take the item the same day.
- Thinking the €45 per gram scale covers all gold: it applies to 750 fineness gold, in other words 18 carat.
- Signing without asking for the APR, which the brochure omits: the branch's rate scale lets you compare the real cost.
- Confusing the public office with a private gold buyer: only the Crédit Municipal may legally make pawn loans in Lyon.
- Forgetting the due date and letting the item go to auction when a renewal would have been enough to keep it.
