A Bordeaux rate scale dated 15 November 2022
The pawn loan tariff consulted has applied since 15 November 2022; no more recent scale was found. The banking tariff as at 1 April 2026, published on the same website, covers the other products and does not replace it.
Loans up to €100: no interest at all
Up to €100, the Bordeaux scale shows a nominal half-yearly rate of 0%, no storage fee and an APR of 0.00%. A small jewellery deposit therefore incurs neither interest nor storage fees if it is redeemed in time.
The middle band, the most expensive
From €100 to €3,000, a half-yearly rate of 5.15% and storage fees of 2% give an APR of 14.81%, falling to 9.85% up to €6,000. Compare with pawn loan rates in France.
Above €6,000, an APR of 5.10%
For loans above €6,000, the Gironde office applies a half-yearly rate of 2.52% with no storage fee, an APR of 5.10% according to the 2022 scale. Large amounts are thus proportionally cheaper.
Four fifths for gold, two thirds for the rest
Bordeaux lends up to 4/5 of the estimated value for platinum, gold or silver, valued by weight, and up to 2/3 for other items. These ceilings mirror those in article D514-8 of the Code monétaire et financier.
Six months, then extensions up to 24 months
The Bordeaux contract lasts six months and is extended in six-month periods, up to 24 months in total. Each renewal comes with a fresh valuation, which may reduce the amount if the item's value has fallen.
Escalating late-payment penalties in Bordeaux
Under the 2022 scale, no surcharge is due for the first month of delay; it reaches 1% of the capital in the second month, 2% in the third and 3% from the fourth. An item entered for sale less than fifteen days beforehand bears 5%.
Sale costs shared between depositor and buyer
When an item is auctioned, preparation costs of 10% including VAT are borne by the depositor and an auction fee of 15% including VAT by the buyer. The general process is set out in auctions of pledged items.
Hallmarking and duplicates: the small charges
The 2022 sheet also provides for a duplicate pawn ticket charged at 5%, capped at €15, and hallmarking fees of €6 for gold, €4 for silver and €9 for platinum, to be added to the cost of the loan.
What the Bordeaux office refuses
The FAQ rules out items that are too bulky, such as vehicles and furniture, specialist professional equipment and older audiovisual or computer equipment. Branded watches require the original invoice; see also pawning watches.
The South West beyond the Gironde
Bordeaux also offers unsecured personal loans of up to €75,000, with a fourteen-day cooling-off period, not to be confused with a pawn loan. Further south-east, the Toulouse Mont-de-Piété applies its own conditions.

Frequent mistakes with the Bordeaux office
- Bringing furniture or offering a vehicle: the Bordeaux office considers them too bulky and refuses them as pledges.
- Overrunning the due date by several months: the penalty climbs to 3% of the capital, then 5% if the item is entered late for sale.
- Losing the pawn ticket: a duplicate costs 5% of the loan, up to a limit of €15.
- Confusing the office's personal loan, up to €75,000 with a cooling-off period, with a pawn loan, which has none.
- Relying solely on the 2026 banking tariff: it does not cover pawn loans.
