Dijon, a local institution rather than a mere branch
Unlike Angers or Grenoble, which are served by neighbouring institutions, Dijon has an autonomous establishment: the Crédit Municipal de Dijon. Like the others, it is governed by articles L514-1 and following of the Code monétaire et financier, which reserve pawn lending against movable goods to it.
Place du 30 octobre: address and access
The official address is 1 place du 30 octobre et de la Légion d’Honneur, 21078 Dijon. Access: 30 Octobre stop or Porte-Neuve TER station. It opens Monday to Friday, from 8.15am to 11.30am and from 1.15pm to 5pm (noted on 9 October 2026).
Four-fifths for gold, two-thirds for everything else
Dijon's terms follow article D514-8: for platinum, gold and silver, the loan "may not exceed four-fifths" of the value estimated by weight. For a painting, a sculpture or an instrument, the maximum drops to two-thirds.
Who values the items pawned in Dijon?
Valuation is entrusted to judicial auctioneers (commissaires-priseurs judiciaires) or to agents appointed by the institution. Their opinion sets the reference value, then the amount granted. Our guide to the valuation of a pledged item explains this decisive stage in detail.
A total term capped at two years in Côte-d’Or
In Dijon, the maximum term, extensions included, is two years, as provided by article D514-7. Beyond that, renewal "will give rise to a new contract" after a fresh valuation, which may change the sum lent.
The special case of miscellaneous items contracts
The published terms state that contracts for "miscellaneous items" (objets divers) can be neither extended nor renewed. Anyone pawning goods in this category in Dijon must therefore plan for full repayment on the due date, or the item will go to sale.
Dijon interest charged by whole month
Interest is calculated monthly and any month started is payable: repaying on the 2nd costs as much as repaying on the 30th. The rates themselves do not appear in the terms consulted on 9 October 2026; ask for the fee scale at the counter.
Requesting the sale of your pledge after three months
The borrower may ask for the item to be sold from three months after deposit, without waiting for the end of the term. Otherwise, without renewal or redemption, the auction takes place at maturity. Every Dijon sale is announced "at least 10 days in advance".
The surplus in Dijon: two years to claim it
When the price obtained exceeds the sums owed, the excess remains available to the former owner for two years; after that period, it passes to the Crédit Municipal. The institution notifies in writing any holder of a surplus of at least €15.
Having a relative redeem your item
A third party may collect the pledge on your behalf if they present a power of attorney, their own identity document and that of the contract holder. The Dijon institution also reserves the right to require proof of ownership at deposit.
Vehicles as pledges: a speciality announced in Dijon
The joint website of the Crédit Municipal institutions presents vehicle pawn loans as exclusive to the Nantes and Dijon institutions, in an article of which we have read only the title. Ask the institution and see our page on car pawn loans.

The City of Dijon devotes a page in its municipal life section to the Crédit municipal. By comparison, the Lyon pawn loan institution advertises 50 to 70% of the estimated value; our summary of the Mont-de-Piété in France covers the other cities.

- Proof of address less than three months old
- Proof of ownership, if the institution requests it
- For collection by a third party: signed power of attorney
- Identity documents of both the proxy and the contract holder
Common mistakes made by Dijon borrowers
- Assuming a miscellaneous items contract can be extended like the others: in Dijon, it must be settled on the due date, or the item is sold.
- Repaying early in the month without knowing that any month started is charged in full, which makes a redemption a few days too late more expensive.
- Leaving a surplus unclaimed for more than two years: after that period, the sum passes to the Crédit Municipal de Dijon and can no longer be claimed.
- Sending a relative to redeem the item without a power of attorney or both people's identity documents: the counter will refuse to hand it over.
- Arriving late in the morning: the institution closes at 11.30am, earlier than many others, and only reopens at 1.15pm.
