Pawn loans in Saint-Étienne, Îlot Tarentaise

In Saint-Étienne, pawn loans are handled by the Crédit Municipal de Lyon branch at 17 avenue Augustin Dupré: you come by appointment only, with an identity document and proof of address, to obtain 50 to 70% of the estimated value.

A Saint-Étienne branch of the Lyon network

Saint-Étienne has no autonomous Crédit Municipal institution. The service is provided by a branch of the Crédit Municipal de Lyon, a public establishment governed by articles L514-1 onwards of the Code monétaire et financier, which the service-public directory lists.

Avenue Augustin Dupré, Îlot Tarentaise

The address is 17 avenue Augustin Dupré, Îlot Tarentaise, 42000 Saint-Étienne; the switchboard answers on 04 77 25 90 99. The hours noted on 9 October 2026 run Monday to Friday, from 8.30am to 12.25pm and from 1.30pm to 4.30pm.

No deposit in Saint-Étienne without an appointment

The Lyon institution requires an appointment, booked online, as well as proof of identity and address. A local resident who turns up unannounced with a piece of jewellery may therefore not be seen. The sales calendar appears on the same platform.

The price of gold at the Crédit Municipal de Lyon

The rate communicated by the institution, noted on 9 October 2026, is €45 per gram for 750 fineness gold, in all branches. Our page on pawn loans on gold explains the role of weight and fineness.

An advance of 50 to 70% of the valuation

The institution's brochure advertises a loan representing between 50 and 70% of the estimated value on the public auction market. For items other than precious metals, article D514-8 sets a legal ceiling of two-thirds of the valuation.

Free appraisal and a majority of gold jewellery

The appraisal costs nothing. According to the institution, around 80% of pledges deposited are jewellery, coins and gold items; next come luxury watches, bronzes, sculptures, paintings, musical instruments, leather goods and antique books.

Electronics and vehicles: enquire at Îlot Tarentaise

The Lyon list mentions neither vehicles, nor telephones, nor computers. Before bringing this type of item to avenue Augustin Dupré, ask the branch, since the valuation is based on the item's value at public auction.

Renewal and the two-year limit in the Loire

The Lyon contract is renewable; the brochure gives neither its term nor its rate. Article D514-7 sets the limit at two years, extensions included, and requires a fresh valuation for each renewal requested.

When a Saint-Étienne pledge is auctioned

Without repayment, the pledge is sold at public auction. The institution specifies that "if the sale exceeds the amount owed, the difference goes to the owner". For the full process, see our page on the auction of a pledge in France.

Six locations, from the Loire to Haute-Savoie

Besides Saint-Étienne, the Crédit Municipal de Lyon receives customers in Lyon, Grenoble, Mâcon, Clermont-Ferrand and Annecy, with a new branch at 98 avenue de France. Residents closer to Isère can consult our page on the Grenoble Mont-de-Piété.

The head office on rue Duguesclin

The Lyon establishment is located at 221 rue Duguesclin, 69003 Lyon, tel. 04 72 60 63 63, and opens from 8.30am to 4.45pm on weekdays. Its services are detailed on our page devoted to pawn loans in Lyon.

Public pledge or gold sale in a Saint-Étienne shop

In the Loire, as everywhere in France, pawn lending against movable goods is a monopoly of the Crédit Municipal institutions, under article L514-1. A shop that buys gold pays for the metal without ever returning it: the transaction is a sale.
