Pawn loans in Lille: the office on rue Gantois

In Lille, pawn loans are offered by the Crédit Municipal at 81 rue Gantois: unusually, the contract lasts twelve months and is renewed by paying the interest alone, for a loan of 75 or 80% of the estimated value.

A municipal public institution supervised by the ACPR

The Crédit Municipal de Lille describes itself as a municipal public institution for credit and social assistance, governed by articles L514-1 et seq. of the Code monétaire et financier and supervised by the ACPR. Its SIRET number is 265 907 741 00150.

Rue Gantois: address, telephone and hours

The head office and branch are at 81 rue Gantois, 59000 Lille. The office answers on 03 20 18 04 00 and receives the public from 9am to 12pm and then from 1.30pm to 5pm, according to its page on pawn loans.

Twelve months instead of six: the Lille exception

Whereas most offices sign for six months, Lille offers a twelve-month contract, renewed for the same period on payment of the interest alone. The legal framework is set out in the guide to the term of a pawn loan in France.

75 or 80% of the estimated value

The Lille office lends 75 or 80% of the item's estimated value, depending on its nature. This ratio is higher than the 50 to 70% stated by the Lyon, Toulouse and Strasbourg offices in their own documents.

From €30 to several tens of thousands of euros

Amounts granted range from €30 to several tens of thousands of euros, with no precise ceiling published. Administration fees are charged after each pledge, on top of the interest: they appear in the tariff handed over before signing.

Contract documents updated in 2026

The office publishes general terms dated 15 March 2026, a pre-contractual information sheet dated 9 March 2026 and a tariff headed Contrat 12 mois dated 15 April 2024. The figures for rates in this last document could not be verified.

Renewal and a possible increase in capital

On renewal, Lille may raise the capital lent if the item has gained value, for example when the gold price rises. For the procedure, see the guide to renewing a pawn loan.

Sale on request after three months

A depositor who does not wish to recover the item can ask for it to be auctioned from three months after the pledge. The office also devotes a page of its website to its auctions, worth checking for the schedule.

Surplus paid back, shortfall absorbed by the office

If the hammer price exceeds the debt, the surplus (boni) is paid to the depositor. If it falls short, the shortfall is borne by the office: the Lille borrower owes nothing further, whatever the outcome of the sale.

95% of items recovered by their owners

The Crédit Municipal de Lille states that 95% of the items deposited are recovered by their owners. This figure is a reminder that most borrowers use a pledge as a temporary advance, not as a disguised sale.

The City of Lille passes on the information

The city council publishes its own articles on pawn loans and on the valuation carried out by the Crédit Municipal. For the equivalent process in the capital, see pawn loans in Paris, where the contract runs for a year.

Cross-border residents: pledging on the Belgian side

Lille is only a few kilometres from the border, but a Lille contract is governed by French law and by the rue Gantois office alone. The separate Belgian rules are presented in the guide to pawn loans in Belgium.

How a pledge works at the Crédit Municipal de Lille

  1. Come to rue Gantois during opening hours with the item, an identity document and proof of address.
  2. Have the item valued: the office offers a loan of 75 or 80% of its value depending on its nature.
  3. Read the pre-contractual sheet and the tariff for the twelve-month contract, then sign and receive the funds.
  4. After twelve months, pay the interest to renew, possibly with capital revalued upwards.
  5. Repay to redeem the item or, from three months, ask for it to be auctioned and collect any surplus.
