The Paris Mont-de-Piété: borrowing on rue des Francs-Bourgeois

In Paris, pawn loans are made at the Crédit Municipal, 55 rue des Francs-Bourgeois in the 4th arrondissement: an auctioneer values the item deposited and the institution lends at least €30, with no income condition.

A public institution serving the capital alone

The Crédit Municipal de Paris is a municipal public institution for credit and social assistance; article L514-1 of the Code monétaire et financier reserves loans against tangible pledges to these institutions. Its website covers Paris only, not every Mont-de-Piété in France.

The Marais counter and its deposit times

The address given for pawn loans is 55 rue des Francs-Bourgeois, 75004 Paris. According to the institution, you can deposit without appointment in the morning, from 9am to 12.30pm, and by appointment in the afternoon, Monday to Saturday.

Three APR bands in the Paris scale

The tariff page, updated in September 2024 according to its metadata, shows an APR of 4.25% up to €500, 9.90% up to €6,000 and 5.30% above that. No effective date is given.

1% storage fee, waived on small loans

The published APRs include a 1% storage fee, from which loans under €500 are exempt: hence the gentler rate of the first band. To see how Paris compares with other institutions, consult pawn loan rates in France.

What 300, 5,000 and 25,000 euros cost

According to the institution's examples, €300 costs €6.38 in interest over six months, €5,000 costs €247.50 and €25,000 costs €662.50. Over twelve months: €12.75, €495 and €1,325.

From €30 to €5 million: the simulator's range

The Paris simulator sets a minimum loan of €30 and an authorised maximum of €5 million, for terms of 1, 6 or 12 months. The general terms as at 1 May 2026, for their part, describe a contract granted for one year and renewable.

Items taken by the Crédit Municipal de Paris

The simulator lists gold, jewellery, watches, silverware, art objects, musical instruments, leather goods, wine, books, photographs, furniture and gaming. The institution does, however, refuse furs and any item containing ivory.

Supporting documents required at the Paris counter

You need valid photo identification, proof of a French address under three months old for a new customer, and bank details for a current account in the same name. From €10,000 borrowed, proof of income becomes compulsory.

Cash up to €3,000, bank transfer above

Since 1 December 2024, the Paris institution has paid loans of up to €3,000 in cash and transferred larger amounts. It states that customers leave within the hour, whereas at the Crédit Municipal de Lyon a prior appointment is compulsory.

Renewing online and avoiding penalties

The loan is extended by paying only the interest due, by bank card in the personal online area up to €1,500. Under the 2026 general terms, each fortnight of delay begun costs 0.50% of the capital, up to a limit of twelve fortnights.

Clic&Clou and early repayment

Repaying early is done pro rata temporis, with no penalty whatsoever. The Clic&Clou service lets you pay online and then collect the item in about fifteen minutes, a useful arrangement for an institution handling some 600 transactions a day on average.

The Paris auction house and a two-year surplus

A pledge neither redeemed nor renewed goes to auction, with 15% charged on the hammer price. The surplus (boni) remains claimable for two years; Paris generated €7.2m of it in 2025. For buyers, see Crédit Municipal auctions.

Common traps for Paris borrowers

Pawn loans in Paris: practical answers

Where is the Paris Mont-de-Piété?

The Crédit Municipal de Paris, heir to the Mont-de-Piété, takes deposits at 55 rue des Francs-Bourgeois, in the 4th arrondissement. In the morning, from 9am to 12.30pm, you can turn up without appointment; in the afternoon, a booked slot is needed.

What rate does the Crédit Municipal de Paris charge?

The online scale shows an APR of 4.25% up to €500, 9.90% between €501 and €6,000, and 5.30% above that. These rates include a 1% storage fee, except for loans under €500, which are exempt.

How much can I borrow from the Crédit Municipal de Paris?

It all depends on the item's valuation. The simulator states a minimum of €30 and an authorised maximum of €5 million. According to the steps published by the institution, the loan generally represents 50 to 80% of the estimated value depending on the type of item.

What happens if I do not repay my pawn loan in Paris?

The item is sold at public auction after a notice given at least ten days beforehand. If the price exceeds the debt and costs, the difference comes back to you as a surplus; if it falls short, the institution claims nothing further from you.

Can I recover my item before the contract ends?

Yes, at any time. Interest is then calculated pro rata temporis, with no penalty. With Clic&Clou, you pay online and then collect the item at the counter in around fifteen minutes, according to the Crédit Municipal de Paris.
